What's it like to be a Systems Analyst?
Systems Analysts use their expertise in information technology to analyse, design and implement information systems to improve the efficiency of business operations. In pursuit of business goals, they upgrade infrastructure and train employees and clients so that they can access and use systems easily. Systems Analysts typically need to be knowledgeable in computer systems and programming languages. Knowledge of business administration is an advantage.
Tasks and duties
- Evaluating information systems and determining system requirements.
- Designing and implementing new systems and frameworks.
- Performing maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshooting technical issues.
- Training employees and clients on software and systems.

How to become a Systems Analyst
You will need at least a bachelor degree to become a Systems Analyst. Some employers prefer candidates with a postgraduate degree in information technology or business administration.

Gain experience. You could start off in an entry-level role within an information technology team, such as a Service Desk Analyst.
Consider completing a masters degree in information technology or business administration. An advanced degree can open up a broader range of career opportunities.
