What's it like to be a Flight Attendant?
Otherwise known as Cabin Attendants, Flight Attendants oversee the comfort and safety of all passengers. They usher passengers to their designated seats, serve food and beverages, answer passenger queries, and perform emergency procedures such as giving clear instructions on how to put on a life vest. Flight Attendants ensure revenue growth by prioritising customer satisfaction, and therefore boosting the airline’s reputation.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting in pre-flight inspections to ensure the success of a flight.
- Welcoming passengers aboard the aeroplane.
- Acting quickly during emergency situations and alleviating the passengers’ nerves.
- Providing assistance in all flight operations as directed by the captain.
- Offering extra support to people with special needs, such as children, people with disability, and elderly individuals.
- Preparing analytic reports regarding the flight.
How to become a Flight Attendant
To become a Flight Attendant in Singapore you must be at least 18 years old and meet the height requirement. Formal qualifications are necessary for you to excel in this role.

Complete your secondary school certificate. You can also take this time to learn how to speak a second language. This will be an asset later on.

Consider taking a bachelor degree in tourism management to boost employment prospects. In this program, you will be equipped with competencies that are necessary to manage tour operations. Cabin crew programs are also offered in some universities so you can have hands-on experience.

Work two years in a customer service position before taking additional training programs required by the airline you’re interested in.
