Challenging experience due to management communication style

The good thingsGood exposure to fast-paced F&B operations. Learned multitasking.

The challengesThe role was physically demanding and required long hours of standing. Production targets were high, especially during peak seasons, which made the work environment fast-paced and stressful at times. My experience was challenging due to poor management practices and a lack of professionalism from leadership. There was often little respect shown toward staff, and decisions regarding employment felt sudden and without clear explanation or prior warning. Employees were frequently expected to take on responsibilities beyond their stated job scope without proper support or recognition. Overall, the work environment felt unstable and discouraging.

A highly micromanaged workplace with misleading job scope, constant monitoring, and poor work-life.

The good thingsNothing. Only good thing that I got this job during Covid.

The challengesThere is nothing good about working here. The company is extremely micromanaged, with constant CCTV monitoring and pressure to stay active in work group chats even outside working hours. Employees are hired under managerial titles, but the actual job scope is frontline work such as selling food, cooking, cleaning, and handling everything manually. Pay increments are very low (about $80 for outlet managers) and do not justify the workload. Staff are blamed for both wastage and shortages, creating a stressful and toxic work environment. I am glad I left — this is not a place I would recommend to anyone seeking growth, respect, or work-life balance.

Great working experience with exposure to different areas of accounts’ duties

The good thingsThe company provides a conducive and friendly working environment that makes me feel safe to work at. We worked as a good team and often provided assistance to one another. As long as you are willing to learn, you can be exposed to different accounts area such as accounts receivables and payables, which provide a good first hand experiences for those who want to enter into the account industry. Besides, I also get to learn how to make use of XERO in the daily work tasks, which is heavily used in a lot of the companies now.

The challengesWorking in the accounts department requires great attention to numbers to ensure accuracy. Hence, it is recommended to start slower, and find your own way of making work more efficient for yourself. ^_^ Don’t be afraid of asking questions when you are in doubt because the people there are nice and willing to help you out, even if you have no any prior experiences.
