Been working as an accountant for 3+ years and lately I feel like I’ve hit a plateau. I know my work inside out, but I don’t get invited into higher-level discussions. Just do the reports, close the books, and repeat. I want to step up into more strategic roles but idk how. Should I start learning FP&A? Business partnering? Or maybe explore data tools like Power BI? Feels like I’m stuck in execution mode. Anyone been through this and successfully levelled up?

Ohh sounds familiar! I started by offering insights, not just numbers. Like, instead of just sending a report, I’d highlight a trend or ask, “Should we explore this further?” It got me noticed. Business partnering mindset helps, even if you're not in that role yet.
