I’m at a crossroads with my CV. I’ve got a lot of experience across different areas, but now I’m struggling to figure out what to exclude. I feel like every experience is valuable and paints a complete picture of who I am as a professional. But at the same time, I don’t want to overwhelm recruiters with too much info. What should I leave out? How do you decide which experience to showcase and which to skip? I need some advice here!

ATS shouldn't ever exist 😩 Spent hours tweaking my resume, only for it to get rejected before a human even sees it. Some companies dump a whole dictionary of keywords into job descriptions, and if your CV doesn’t match exactly, bye bye. Like, can’t a real person just scan through first? Not everyone writes their experience the same way. I bet so many solid candidates get ghosted just because some software didn’t like their wording. Anyone cracked the ATS code yet? Need real hacks.

Everyone talks about CV length, keywords, and formatting, They forgot that one rare tip, which is adding a “key wins” section at the top. Instead of just listing job duties, highlight 2-3 big achievements right away. Example: Increased sales by 30% in 6 months or Led a team of 10 to complete a project ahead of schedule. Recruiters skim CVs in seconds, so showing impact upfront grabs attention fast. Small change, big difference.

As a recruiter, here are 3 things that would make me toss a resume right away: 1. Typos or grammar errors: This shows a lack of attention to detail and professionalism. 2. Unfocused or irrelevant information: If your resume is filled with outdated roles or unrelated skills that don’t match the job, it’s a red flag. 3. Poor formatting: A resume that’s hard to read, with inconsistent fonts or cluttered sections, can be an immediate turn-off. Make sure to keep it clean, relevant, and error-free!

My sister, who has 6 years of working experience, laughed when she saw my 1-page resume. She said it looks empty and makes me seem like I’ve done nothing. But as a fresh grad, what else am I supposed to add? I’ve got my degree, internships, and a few projects, but I don’t want to fluff it up with useless info just to fill space. She insists recruiters will just skip me, but I’ve also heard that keeping it short and relevant is better. So which is it? Should i make it longer?

But let’s be real—how many of us actually do that? I only touch mine when I’m actively applying for jobs, but I wonder if keeping it updated regularly would make a difference when new opportunities pop up. Back and forth tweaking my CV for weeks, just to make sure everything written well. Question!! Do you usually ask a friend, a mentor, or do you actually pay for a CV review service? Not sure if it's worth spending money on, but I also don’t want to miss out on job opportunities just because my CV isn’t strong enough. Anyone knows where in SG I can go for this? Are paid services actually helpful, or should I just DIY with online templates?
