I'm interviewing for a job with a luxury fashion brand opening here. The brand’s big overseas, but they’re offering me less than my current salary. They said I’ll earn through commission, but honestly I’m doubtful...luxury items don’t sell that fast. I asked if they can raise the base salary to offset this but they declined. Am I wrong for being cautious? Anyone in high-end retail—how realistic is commission in this line? Do you sell a lot, every day?

I currently hold a store manager position. Lately, I’ve been thinking about moving out of frontline retail and into a management or coordinator role in the office, something more corporate, maybe in operations, merchandising, or planning. Has anyone successfully made that internal transition before? What aspects do I need to prove myself? Is it about networking with the HQ team, improving Excel and reports, or showing initiative beyond just store KPIs? Would love to hear your advice!

I’ve been working in retail for a while, and honestly… I think I’m done. The long hours, unpredictable shifts, and constantly being on my feet is really taking a toll on me. I’m grateful for the experience, especially dealing with different types of people, but I don’t see a future here anymore. I want something with better structure and growth. Anyone else made the switch from retail to something more stable? How did you start?

I’m a fresh grad trying to find a full-time office job, but it's been tough. I’m wondering if taking up a retail job as my first job is a good idea. Will I be stuck in retail if I choose this path, or can it help me build transferable skills for an office career later on? Anyone been in this situation? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🙏

Working in retail is not just "stand around and sell things" okay? People always say retail job “easy”. You just need to stand, smile, and sell. But they don’t see us dealing with rude customers, no rest breaks during peak hour, and still expected to hit sales target. 😩 And if we complain, they say “customer is always right.” How to tahan? Some days I really feel like walking out, but bills gotta be paid...

I’ve noticed how quiet some malls and retail outlets have become. With footfall going down, it makes me wonder. How can businesses keep their sales and profits up? I think it’s all about getting creative lah. Maybe more in-store experiences like workshops, live demos, or pop-ups that draw people in. Or even collabs with influencers to create hype. I’ve seen some places use AR tech for cool “try-before-you-buy” features too. Retail has to go beyond just selling; it’s about creating experiences.

Sorry for asking weird question. But what are the best optimal hours to open a retail boutique store in Singapore? Do people shop in the morning? Seems like most stores open 10am to 10pm, but are there hours where the crowds are dead? Also is opening every day of the week a good strategy? What is the best day to have an off day to rest? Just doing some study here
