When I first started learning to code in Singapore, I honestly felt overwhelmed. There were just too many programming softwares and tools. I kept switching between them, thinking maybe the “right” one would suddenly make me a better coder. But over time, I realised it’s not about chasing the perfect software. It’s about finding one that suits your style. For me, VS Code is my go-to. It’s clean, lightweight, and packed with helpful extensions. What’s yours?

I'm old [prefer not to mention age] been thinking to switch from doing operations to software development. Care to share the salary they willing to offer for experienced candidates. I believe my previous experience in operations can help me very well if I'm planning to jump, but I’m not sure if companies will be willing to take in someone my age with no prior coding experience yet

Coding is getting increasingly complicated, and you know that moment when you’ve been staring at your code for hours, convinced it’s perfect, only to find a rogue semicolon messing everything up? Times like these are the WORST cos you need to have super attention to detail, but then when you discover it, it's EXTREMELY SATISFYING. What’s the longest you’ve spent debugging something ridiculously small? Any memorable “a-ha!” moments where you finally cracked the code?

Can we talk about unrealistic job postings for the software development roles? I saw one the other day asking for 8+ years of experience in a framework that’s only been around for 5 years 😅 It feels like every company wants a capable worker who knows every programming language and framework, plus cloud computing, AI, and maybe how to fix their office printer. Have you come across these ridiculous job descriptions? Would you apply?

The reality of being a software developer in Singapore: NOT GLAMOROUS!! Anybody else had the misconception that being a techie was gonna be cool? My friends think.. I'm building the next billion-dollar app or hacking into top-secret systems. In reality, I spend half my time Googling error messages. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but it’s not all startup glory and tech fame. Just wanna put it out there for anybody who think we have the coolest jobs

I'm thinking about the future of software devs.. where’s the real potential? Where's the dough? Been in dev for 3 years now, currently earning ~$5.5K, but eyeing roles offering ~$7K-$9K. With AI, automation, and Web3 coming up, I’m not sure where to double down and focus on. Are apps still the money-makers, or are online platforms/websites the safer bet? Hey guys, what's the most useless programming language you've ever learnt? Ever picked up a programming language that turned out to be completely useless (at least for your career)? I spent months learning Ruby for a project that got canceled, and now I rarely use it. Another friend had to learn COBOL for a legacy system—he described it as “coding archaeology.” 😂 I wanna know leh, what's really the most "waste time" coding language out there?
