HR played me so I played them back! Asked for $5.5k salary, matching the range $4-6k on their job ads. Successfully scored the interview & they're willing to pay my price BUT after seeing my payslip, they lowball me with $4.8k max. I pretended to be REALLY interested, so they excitedly sent over the offer letter thinking I'm down for their s*itty salary then proceeded to decline after 2 weeks saying the amount is too low for my level. Got ghosted afterwards but it's worth it 😎

I used to think salary talk in SG was taboo, but times are changing. I realize more and more people are becoming comfortable sharing their salaries online and with peers. It’s amazing to see that we’re becoming more aware that keeping quiet only benefits companies, not us. Transparency empowers everyone! Salary talk isn’t scary, it’s actually motivating. The more we educate people about salary transparency, the better we become at advocating for pay equality for all. Kudos, Singaporeans! ✅

I have this habit of asking people about their salary. Not to compare or anything, but to understand if we’re really being paid what we’re worth. Most of the time, people shy away or just say “same like you lah.” But today was different. A new colleague shared openly, and it turned into a really honest conversation. I realized we’re both fairly valued, and that gave me some peace of mind. 😊 It showed me that when we start normalizing salary talks, it becomes less awkward and more empowering.

According to ST’s 2024 salary guide, at 32yo earning $7k I’m in the top 28% of my peers aged 30-34. Apparently the median is between $5 to 5.999k. Anyone here in this age bracket can confirm if this is so? Coz I feel even with 7k it’s not easy to make ends meet. Can’t imagine how others are managing with under 6k in this stage of life.

People in your 30s, how much do you earn?? I'm a 35-year-old preschool teacher with 12 years of experience, making only 4.8k. Have recent pay hikes closed the gap with other fields? The average salary here is around 5k. Some experienced teachers earn just 3.5-4k. Four years ago, I made 2.8k, then 3.7k, and then 4k by changing jobs. Is our field improving enough? Teacher pay went from 1k (20 years ago) to 2-4k now. What do you think?
