I just started a new role that involves a lot of data work, but honestly… I’m not as good as everyone thinks I am. People assume I’m a pro because of my resume or the way I talk during interviews, but the truth is I’m still learning. Now I’m scared to ask for help because I don’t want them to think I was bluffing. How do you ask for help without looking incompetent? I really want to improve but also don’t want to ruin the impression they have of me.

I’m currently working in a finance industry as a junior tech, but I’m really interested in transitioning to a data analyst role one day. I enjoy working with data but feel like I’m missing the skills and direction to make the switch. Data analyst but slowly losing passion… money is good, but what’s next? Not gonna lie. The pay in this line is solid, but after 3 years, I feel like I’m just building dashboards and fixing Excel sheets daily. No spark anymore. 😞 I used to be excited learning new tools or analyzing trends, but now it’s all rinse and repeat. Is this just a phase? Or is it time to consider moving into something like data product, business strategy or even teaching? Curious if anyone else hit this plateau before.

I’ve been in data analytics for a while now, and tbh I’m still learning new things every week. But I’m curious, for those of you in the same field, what’s your favourite part about the job? Is it cleaning messy data (if yes, you’re a different breed 😂), building dashboards, deep-dive investigations, or maybe just the thrill of finding patterns others can’t see? For me, it’s the satisfaction when stakeholders finally go “Ohhh now I get it!”. Feels like I've FINALLY done something right. WBU?

Being a data analyst sounds cool… until you get drowned in last-minute requests. Every time someone says “it’s just a quick chart,” I know I’m not sleeping early that night. 😮‍💨 Working in data analytics feels like being on standby 24/7. The request will sound simple, but the data is always messy, the deadline is always yesterday, and somehow, the report needs to look “nice” too. Anyone else constantly like this? How do you set boundaries without sounding like you’re not a team player?
