Why isn’t engineering a more popular field among women in SG? I’ve always been passionate about engineering, but I’ve noticed that it’s still not as common for women to enter this field. I’m wondering if it’s because of perceptions around it being a ‘male-dominated’ industry, or if there are other reasons? Does the roles mostly fit for male or are there specific challenges we face compared to our male counterparts? Share your thoughts!

I think a lot of it stems from perceptions and the fact that engineering has long been associated with physical labor or high-tech environments that were considered ‘male territory.’ It’s not necessarily that the roles “fit” men better, but there are still outdated ideas to challenge. Women may face certain biases or even isolation in some environments, but these barriers are definitely being broken down.
