In my company, it’s common for my boss and teammates to message after work hours and expect a fast reply. At first I could tolerate it, but now I get super anxious every time I see their texts. I’m thinking of getting a separate phone just for work so I can switch it off after hours and finally rest. I want better mental boundaries, but with appraisal season coming up, I’m scared it might look bad.
Anyone tried this or found a better way to set boundaries without hurting your yearly review?

Just don't reply them after work hours. If they ask why, just be honest with them that you you'll only reply work-related DURING working hours. Unless, in your contract is stated that you need to be on stand-by anytime. That's a different story.

If you feel guilty not replying to your boss right away, just send something like, ‘Ok I’ll check this tomorrow morning. Thanks for the update!’ Simple acknowledgment, and they’ll get the hint that you’re tied up

i quitted my last job bcos my supervisor and other coworkers keep bugging me, always tryna updates thing late at night. This was very frustrating and I felt that it was quiet rude. I have talked with my friends and I noticed that it’s only my friends who are in healthcare or in tech who get contacted after work hours so I’m thinking this might be “normalized” in certain fields like other commenters have said.

stop doing that. Stop making like this is something you must commit. After working hours is your right. If i were you, i will keep the work chat open at all times, so I may get a message after hours, but I'm not expected to do work after hours or reply straight away. Pretty sure it can wait until the next day.

i keep hearing this online. Like everyone has their boss texting them even after off hours. it's entirely wrong, but it is how the work world is.. to be safe, just bear with it until your done your appraisal.

perhaps it's time for all employees to normalize saying stop to boss for texting any coworkers outside of working hours. That's our right! we dont get paid to answer texts at 8 or 9 at night time.
