This is a job confession. I’m low-key envious of my cousin. He’s only a bus driver, a job that many in SG would look down on yet he earns a solid income, has great work-life balance, and actually enjoys what he does. Our family & people around him find it odd because he’s smart, has a degree, but he’s happier than most of us who stuck working in offices. Meanwhile, I got a “respectable” job but chained to my desk, stressed out & wondering if this so-called "prestige" is really worth it. ☹️

Honestly, your cousin is winning in life. Prestige doesn’t pay for peace of mind, and a fat title won’t fix burnout. If he’s earning well, living stress-free, and actually enjoying life, that’s rich. Society might sneer, but at the end of the day, it’s his happiness that matters not their approval. Maybe the rest of us should be questioning our “respectable” jobs instead.

Don’t really understand why would people look down on bus drivers or in fact Any job in general at the end of the day they’re earning an honest living that should be admirable enough.

That's why there's saying "happiness comes from within". If you think you have enough, and appreciate where life brings you then everything will be good :D

Good for him! Success definition could be different for everyone. Sometimes the simplest thing could bring peace to life 😄

imo bus driving really has no future. I predict in 20 years or less, all buses will be self driving

Hmm, didn’t have a degree, do you think people would judge him less for being a bus driver? Just wondering..

Now i'd like to ask you, if money is not the main reason, what kind of jobs would you like to do?

You got me to wonder, do you think we would choose jobs like this if society didn’t put so much weight on titles and “respectable” careers? For me, I think yes and no cause some people really love that challenges and progression that “prestigious” jobs bring.

I totally get what you mean. It’s amazing that your cousin has found something he enjoys and a lifestyle that works for him. Sometimes happiness isn’t about prestige or degrees at all. It’s okay to feel envious because it just shows what you value. I think it’s really brave to reflect on what truly makes you happy instead of just following what society expects.
