Is it wrong if i got an MC but instead of resting at home I go for a walk at a mall? I'm really stressed out. I took my meds already, felt quite OK so I go for window shopping just to feel better. I shared some pics on my whatsapp story but my boss saw it (forgot to hide) and scold me. Saying if i'm healthy enough to go shopping, then i'm definitely healthy enough to come to work. But i already got MC. What I wanna do on my rest day is none of her business right? Can she bring this issue to HR?

I mean... you did kind of invite the drama by posting it 😬

Number 1 rule at workplace... never add any colleague or boss at social media, and stay low, and you can avoid almost 90% of drama

But I kinda get why your boss was annoyed? If you're well enough to drive to a mall, walk around for hours and snap pics for your story, it does look a bit sus. MC is for resting, not shopping trips. Just being honest here 🤷

Been there literally. Took MC for anxiety and went to a café just to breathe. My colleague saw and made comments. Thing is, rotting in bed made my mental state WORSE. Moving around helped me recover faster. huhhhh 😣

Not wrong, but I get why your boss reacted the way she is. MC means unfit for work, but posting mall pics makes it look like you’re not sick. That’s the issue. HR-wise, unlikely to be serious unless you clearly abuse MC. Just keep it lowkey next time. Be smart a bit lah!

That said, workplaces often react badly when they see employees outside looking “fine,” especially on social media. Your boss is probably focusing on appearance rather than the medical context. Being able to walk around a mall for a while does not necessarily mean you are fit to handle a full workday, commute, pressure, deadlines, or customer interaction.
You’re not automatically “wrong” for stepping out while on MC, but employers sometimes interpret visible outings negatively.

Having an MC does not automatically mean you must stay in bed the entire day. An MC generally means a doctor assessed that you were unfit for work or needed rest/recovery. Depending on the illness, some light activities — like taking a short walk, getting fresh air, or casual window shopping — can still be reasonable, especially if it helps with stress or mental wellbeing.
Helllloooo~ we are entitled to 14 days of MC lor. Heck lah.

Technically she CAN bring it to HR but probably won't go far la. Whatever it is, MC is MC. What you do during your off time is your business. Next time just hide your story from colleagues tho, lesson learned the hard way 😅
