I’ve been struggling with hitting my customer service KPIs since the start of the year because they've set it way higher than last year. The targets are set based on metrics that, honestly, are SO hard to achieve with the volume of work we have. I’m worried that my performance will reflect poorly, but I’m also trying my best. I need advice on how to talk to my boss about this. How do I approach this conversation without coming off as making excuses?

Totally get this. It’s not easy when the goalposts keep shifting. Maybe ask for a check-in to review KPIs together? You could say, “I’ve noticed a big jump in targets and want to align on what’s realistic given our current load.” Keeps it constructive without sounding defensive.
