I once read a case online where a doctor refused to issue an MC because the patient “seems fine & can still use handphone". Even though the person had bad flu, persistent coughing, & couldn’t focus well at work, she were told to carry on. Honestly, I understand the need to prevent MC misuse, BUT rest is essential for recovery and for reducing the risk of spreading illness to others in the office. A bit more empathy & trust can go a long way in supporting healthier workplaces. Don't you agree?

No matter what kind of illness someone is going through, I believe they deserve time to rest and recover. Just because they appear fine on the outside doesn’t mean they don’t need a break. That might just be how they cope.

Wow, that’s a weird doctor. Recently, I fell really sick and had high fever and even then I still had to use my phone to inform my colleagues about any urgent work that needed to be done that day. Did the doctor forget lots of communication has to be done on a phone?

You'd never know how bad someone’s feeling on the inside honestly. Being able to scroll on your phone doesn’t mean you can think straight or work efficiently haihhh

I’ve worked through coughs and colds without an issue. Sometimes it just feels like people are too soft nowadays. Not every flu needs a day off. ops

What shared online can be one sided. MC is issued by doctors professional assessment in his professional capacity. It’s not about empathy.

Hmm... I actually don’t agree. If someone can still use their phone, they’re clearly not that sick. MCs should be for people who are seriously unwell, not just feeling “off” or coughing a bit. If everyone takes MC every time they feel a little under the weather, who’s going to get the work done? Productivity will drop. Sometimes we need to toughen up girl. Not every small symptom means you need to stay home. You can still function, can’t you?

company doc should issue MC instead of staff requesting for it as news spread every fast in the office about a particular clinic, besides its a company doc
