I went for an interview recently for what was advertised as a full-time job at an SME. Everything went well, they asked for my payslip and referee contacts. But after interview, the manager suddenly said they’re changing the role to a 6-month contract, “subject to review.” If I do well, I might become permanent or be extended for another year depending on management’s decision. This sudden change makes me wonder if I should be concerned or just accept that some companies work this way...?

Ooo i've had almost similar situation as you. I got job offered on Linkedin. So i went for the interview, two times. First, with the hiring manager and second round with HR. Long story short, i accepted the job. Then I received a call from the HR person with "bad news". They decided to cancel the role altogether. I could barely believe what I hearing. Clearly there was some kind of internal drama going on that I didn't know about. and therefore would not be hiring me :(

Sneaky! Honestly dont you feel a bit betrayed? Like, they're offering a full time but ended up like this..? But what i can say is, find a backup first..just in case 🤫

Part-Time/ Relief Security Officer (Freelance) - PWM Grade: Senior Security Supervisor (SSS)
The same thing happened to me. During the interview, was offered a perm position. A few days later, informed me that I did not have the required experience so offer changed to 6 month contract to assess suitability for the role.

I have worked in SME before. VentureHaven. I’m glad that I am no longer there cause of the toxicity work environment. I won’t recommend anyone to even choose a SME job unless u r super good with all the politics tricks or whatsoever. Just let go of this n find another one.

Just want to know what is going on. The job that OP went for interviewed, suddenly the role change to 6 month contract.. does that mean company now can like ‘test drive’ you and see if you’re fit for the job or not. You know what.. I would be pissed if this thing happen to me. I think the BIG question is, are you ok with working as a contractor for this employer? 6 months period consider quite long…
