I was honestly excited when I got promoted last month. It felt like all the late nights and hard work finally paid off. But now that I’m leading my ex-teammates, it’s like nothing has changed… for them. Some still treat me like a peer, others ignore instructions or go ahead with decisions without checking in. It’s frustrating because I don’t want to micromanage, but I also need to earn their respect as a leader. Has anyone gone through this?

It’s so relatable. I was super pumped when I got promoted too, but the reality hit different. One thing I realised: leadership isn’t just about giving instructions, it’s about guiding mindset shifts. Some folks need reminders that things have changed, and that’s okay. Just keep being fair and firm.
