I’m a fresh grad who just started working in procurement, and now I’m tasked with suggesting 10 new vendors for our upcoming projects. Prob is, I don’t really know where to find reliable supplier contacts or how to decide which ones are the best fit. My questions: 1- How do you usually go about scouting and evaluating new suppliers? 2- What’s the typical thought process or SOP to follow when picking vendors? Any tips or advice to help me get this right would be super appreciated!

Don’t stress as this gets easier! Ask teammates if they’ve got go-to vendors, then do some light benchmarking. I usually look at track record, payment terms, and how responsive they are. If you can, call and “vibe check” them a bit sometimes that tells you more than a PDF quote.
