Procurement is a thankless job. Recently, a vendor didn’t deliver as expected, and now I’m getting the blame for it. I did everything right. I followed up, ensured deadlines were met, and even had backups in place. But somehow, it’s still “my fault” bcz higher-ups only see the end result. I don’t even know how to defend myself now without sounding defensive. How do you move on from being blamed for something that wasn’t your fault? Is there a way to clear your name without making things worse?

Ugh yes, procurement feels invisible until something goes sideways. Maybe instead of defending, frame it as lessons learned + steps taken. People respond better when it sounds proactive
