I'm interviewing for a job with a luxury fashion brand opening here. The brand’s big overseas, but they’re offering me less than my current salary. They said I’ll earn through commission, but honestly I’m doubtful...luxury items don’t sell that fast. I asked if they can raise the base salary to offset this but they declined. Am I wrong for being cautious? Anyone in high-end retail—how realistic is commission in this line? Do you sell a lot, every day?

Commission in luxury retail can be hit or miss, with sales being unpredictable. If the base salary isn’t comfortable for you, it’s okay to move cautiously.
