I was complaining about how little salary I got offered as a poly fresh grad @ $2.2k and someone said, then just go and become a bus driver lah! Can earn $3k what. I felt instantly annoyed. 😑Nothing against d job but who would've studied up to diploma & go for bus captain as their 1st job? Obviously, i'm looking to climb up the career ladder and eventually earn more in the future?? People say I'm choosy but I only wanted to start off with good salary. Is it too much that I asked for $3.5k?

You, sir, need to go for a reality check up. Delulu is not a solulu. Poly grads don't earn that much lah as 1st job. Depending on your field of study but generally poly grads get around $2.5k -- $3k only. Yes, you're lowballed and got lower than what you're supposed to get but if you put $3.5k as expected salary, you ain't getting jobs also..

Some people just don't get what you're aiming for in your career. It's okay to be ambitious and have specific salary expectations. If you need a job desperately, my advice consider taking that 2.2K offer first and see how it goes. While you're employed, you can still look around for better opportunities. In the meantime, try to spend wisely and below your means until you land a job with the salary you want

2.2k for a 1st job actually ok la. no one is asking u to stay at that pay forever. but 6 months of earning 2.2k vs 6 months of earning nothing just because no one is offering u that amount? think about it :) after 1 yr at least have experience already can always look around for better offer.

Than ask yourself $3.5K, will you employ someone without work experience for this kind of pay ?

10 Year ago, I accepted a job as drafter starting pay @ 1.8k/month. I recommend just take and see where you lack of, and learn more about the industry

In 2015, after diploma my salary was 1.8k. 2023, after degree my current company offered me 2.7k. After back and forth I was offered 2.9k (simply because I have experience). My suggest is, fight for your pay. But don’t go too high from their asking. Remember, high pay isn’t always good especially if they expect you to do OT. Theres always a chance you might not be able to claim OT and transport back home. I rejected many companies who wanted to offer me 2.8k with no OT pay but need OT.

Do not just look at monthly basic pay. Look at overall remuneration package : no of months of bonus, overtime pay etc. JD and career prospect is very important for a fresh graduate. FYI, salary at $3500, unlikely you can claim overtime pay.

Honestly, it’s not too much to ask. I know that we just want to feel valued and compensated fairly for our education and skills, right?

I say if it's a big firm, maybe worth it to take a lower pay,how much lower u decide SME n offering very low pay, don't need to consider
