Can a fresh grad with no experience negotiate salary? Would I come off as greedy or too demanding? 22M, graduated with a diploma. Just got a job offer where they’re offering $2k/month for a 6-month 'trial' period, with a promise of an increment if my performance exceeds their expectation. How do I nego for more (because it's too little TBH) or explore other options to increase the salary package? Also, i wonder if HR is gatekeeping the salary. Are they doing this to me bcz I don't hv a degree?

Every interview process always has a room for negotiate. As a grad i know you don't have much leverage on experience and probably not on the "unique skill" front either. Your only leverage would be another job offer, if you don't have that then there isn't really anything to negotiate. The best you can do is say "I was hoping for a bit more", but that's about all you can do.

always negotiate. don't be scared about it, but if they offer you 2k, then say "i was hoping for 2.2K-2.3K". the worst they will do is come back and say "no, 2Kk is all i can do". most jobs are based on ranges. the recruiter will always start out on the low side of the range. it's just how it is.

Yeah I agree. I think HR is the culprit. Every time also they like to reduce our salary, as if it's their KPI to keep the salary low for candidates. For you, maybe you can ask HR if you hit certain milestones within 3 months, can you discuss increment? Just be careful not to sound pushy because some companies strict one. Better play safe to not mess up your chance, bro.

Plz do negotiate with them. Dont self-doubting! Offer a range that you're comfortable with - something like "similar roles at XYZ are being offered between P and Q according to (what source)" Always feel comfortable taking ownership of your career. That’s your future to live with

You wont be come out as too demanding if you knew how to negotiate it. Mostly managers they already have the budget from the employer and are allowed to spend up to that amount in salary. Managers will of course want to get you cheaper so they can say they saved the company money.

Usually diploma pay is def more than what you're earning. 8 years ago, I earned 1.3 then 1.8 after probation, that was just a contract role. If you must counter, make sure they give you increment after probation n it is in your contract. You can ask them why 6 months, it is very long probation. Oh, if you do want the job, you can tell them about the skills you hv and how you can save them money, even if they give you an increment.

Why would they do that? I think they'll judge you based on your capabilities la. Degree or no degree also sometimes depends on your nego skills. Explore other options? I think you wait a bit more first before exploring since you're only a freshgrad.

Negotiating is a skill you'll need throughout your career life. Haha. You can highlight your strengths and politely express your hope for a more competitive offer. It's better than you ask for sympathy about your personal financial problem. It's not greedy, it's business mahh!

First off, congrats on landing a job! It's natural to want fair compensation. Maybe mention your commitment and inquire about possibilities for a higher starting salary. It's worth a shot, right? never try never know..
