So, I’ve been at my company for a few years now, and I know I’m underpaid compared to others in the industry. But every time I bring it up, the response is always "you're lucky to even have a job in this economy." How do you even approach a salary negotiation when the company just expects you to be grateful for the job? Is it worth looking for another role, or is the whole "salary negotiation" just a waste of time?

That “just be grateful” line is such a cop-out. You’re not wrong for wanting fair pay. If they keep shutting down the convo, it might be time to quietly explore outside roles. Sometimes the best negotiation move is having another offer in hand.
