Took a manager job at $4.5K, but now regretting my decision. 😔
I jumped ship from my old company without bargaining because they said the pay would bump up after a year. Fast forward, nothing's changed. Even worse, found out I'm earning less than some non-managers. Despite achieving all our goals, my HOD and the Director are always "too busy" for a chat about my raise. Should I stay and push for my increment, or is it time to find a place that recognizes my contributions? What would you do?

Definitely ask for raise. There is no zero harm for asking that, at least you get the answer instead you depending on overthinking it until you question yourself. The worst case.. they might say is “it’s not in the budget yet”. IMO, once you take the managerial duties you sure need your pay raised.

If you’re not happy where you’re at, mainly because they pay you less, it’s better for you to seek another job. If I were you, I would definitely turn that job down. A manager role should get paid more than what that company is offering you.

In my case I was the one doing all the manager’s work, but still haven’t been promoted or received a pay raise. It all happened after my manager left for a different job. My company interviewed around for a replacement, but never found a candidate they liked. I wasn’t considered because I had only been with the company for 5 months. In the meantime, I took over the responsibilities myself, handling tasks like management reviews, trainings, dealing with budgets, and other financial matters.

I think it all depends on the kind of role and the pay metrics. E.g. I manage 2 people, both significantly older than me, more years working in the company, yet they are hourly workers with less education than me. Nevertheless, because of how their hourly rates worked and their years of service, plus their ability to charge OT, they can earn more money than I do. This has never bothered me cause they have earned their salaries and they continue to earn it through their hours and even overtime.

I hope you decided to wait some more time. Try to stay there atleast for 5 years and see what comes of it. Show your worth and see if they hook you up. I'm 1 year as a manager and have about 9 employee's under me, some with twice experience as me and making more than me. Its totally normal if you ask me. But i know if i stick with my position it will improve, you'll eventually pass them up. Trusy me!

If you leave after only 1++ of working, you better be prepared to ask questions from recruiters. Some more, you're now a manager so jumping too often doesnt look good on your resume. If I were you, I'd start applying but at the same time keep pushing the higher up. You must fight bro, but don't plan to stay long lah. This company doesn't seem to value you much also.

If the bosses keep dodging the topic or has been "too busy", it might be a sign to start checking out other options. Don't settle for less than what you deserve, ya know?

Aiyaaa I feel you, man. It's tough when the promises made don't materialize, especially when it comes to your livelihood. Maybe it's time to have a frank discussion with your bosses. At least try to innitiate the conv la.. If not then you ciao then another regret.

Sigh, that's a tough spot to be in, bro. Feeling undervalued after putting in your best is the worst feeling.. Been there too, but I stayed at that place for 2 years ++ hoping for a change. But yeaa, nothing change then I decided to make a move. Happier now even it's not a huge increase, but at least they don't give me fake promises and hope.
