I think all these surveys about fresh grads salary reaches $4k above is a bluff lah. My friends who graduate from poly all say it's IMPOSSIBLE to get that much. At most they can get around $2.5k and that's a lot already. My friends who studied at good unis are facing other probs - not easy for them to get permanent position nowadays. Many contract offers, quite few FT. Consider lucky lah if they can find one. Wonder why is this happening. Company cutting cost? Too many fresh grads out there?

Intern
I went for my first interview last week, for a junior role (designer) by MNC. I did my research based on Graduate Employment Survey (GES) conducted by MOE. So I had a clear idea of the salary I was aiming for. I proposed the median SGD4K as my desired salary. Unfortunately, the HR gave me that straight face look and said 'That’s too high,' explaining SGD3.8K is the standard. But i guess it's fine since they offered me FT. hopefully i ace this round of iv!

Fresh grad
Same thought! $4k feels like a unicorn salary for most fresh grads. My friends from uni mostly started with $3k+, (if they're lucky enough). The job market is like over-saturated right now, maybe because there are so many graduating every year. Plus, companies seem to prefer contract staff to reduce long-term commitments.

4k$ is possible la for some sectors like banking or tech. But usually others will earn 3k-ish

Can't speak for the others but only myself. Been in contract since internship. Keep renewing it. First 6 months, then 1 year. Now it's been 2 years of working here. Planning to find other job soon bcz it's not secured. But good thing is, i can now apply for FT position cz I have 2 yrs of working experience. Can ask for salary hike too. So don't be scared to accept contract job to gain exposure for a short time.

I think it’s the dream for them freshies to earn 4k$ as the starting. Usually my company they earn around 2.5 and that’s already considered high 😅

$4k does seem exaggerated for most grads but if technical role, 4k-5k yes

No, it is not bluff. I know 2 younger persons very well (born in 1993 and 1995). Both their starting monthly basic salaries are above $4,000, and these were about 6 and 8 years ago.
