Can I be honest? I don't like CNY. Not because I don't enjoy it but I hate meeting the relatives. Ever since I graduated, our conversation has been centered around work & salary. Even marriage is out of the question bcz my salary is below $5k, unlike my cousins. Every year I get an earful about changing to a better job with higher pay. As if I've never tried before?? Can you tell me what other reasons can I give them besides "it's not my luck yet" because to them, that's an excuse not efforts.

When they say your salary is low, just tell them your salary will grow together with the angbao they give you.
And when they tell you to find a better job, ask them when they plan to upgrade to a better husband/wife.

I think I'm fortunate enough that my relatives are very understanding. I'm the one freaking out about being freshly graduated and still struggling to land any job position:(
they keep telling me that I'll get something soon. but I doesn't feel so...
I'm sorry that family isn't so nice to you... just take it from me: you ain't theirs to pick at. you your own problem. you pick your own slack, they can buzz off >:P

For me right, it depends on how you take and answer it. Just celebrates your own progress! Your cousins' paths aren't yours, and that's okay. You're creating your own success story. The fact that you keep trying shows incredible resilience!

Oof, been there. Try "I'm taking a strategic approach" or "I'm investing in skills that'll pay off long-term." Sounds more proactive. But real talk, you could also just lie? Cause you don't owe them your truth when they're being judgy.

Omg this is why I dread CNY every year 🤯🤯 They act like we're not already stressed enough about money and jobs. Like sorry my life doesn't revolve around impressing relatives I see once a year?? The audacity of comparing you to your cousins too. So toxic..

haha if u r bad they will look down on u. likewise if you are good they might try to pretend to be close to u also to take adv of u next time. better to look bad than good.
