Been working for 1 year already so i can ask about salary increment for next year, right? Can you give me tips on how to have "the talk" with my boss during appraisal? this is my 1st time doing it so i don't know what to expect. i don't feel comfortable revealing my plan to my colleagues because i worry that they might feel jealous or something. Mostly because I'm young but I'm doing better job than them. I can justify the increment that I'm going to ask but i just dunno how to start.

I don't want to discourage you but... this reads a bit overconfident tbh. "Doing better than them". You might end up disappointed or worse, coming across as immature. Maybe manage your expectations here because this might not go how you think.

Ehhh I'd be careful here.. You say you can justify it but have you actually gotten formal positive feedback or are you just assuming? If you're just assuming, i think a year is still early lah..

Totally fair to ask after a year, especially if you’ve been performing well! 👏 Just keep it professional. Focus on your achievements, how you’ve added value, and what goals you want to take on next. When bringing it up, say something like: “I’d like to discuss my growth and compensation for next year.” Keep it confident!

Your first salary discussion means you're officially adulting in your career haha! and you sound well-prepared and self-aware. Give it a try to talk to him he'll surely impress!

the salaries in so many companies stay constant. Once the candidate accepted the salary lower than his/her last drawn salary, it is no longer possible to get salary increment. some more, companies paid the salaries short of money to employees (lower than what was stated in the agreement after CPF deduction).

I would said Don't do that, if your performents is well enough to stand out, your company would see it and if nothing goes wrong, your increments will come. not easy to manage a company, too many factor in it. that why no company would assure you anything.

Totally normal to feel awkward about the first one! My approach: email your boss asking to "discuss performance and career progression" so they're not blindsided. In the meeting, talk about what you've learned, what you've accomplished, future goals, THEN money talk ^^
