I’ve been unemployed for 4 months now and it’s been really challenging. 🤧 So in a recent interview, I said I'm willing to accept a 20% pay cut to secure a role but the hiring manager expressed concern that I might leave if I find a higher-paying job later. Honestly, I value money but I also value loyalty if I find a company that aligns with my values and working style. How can I make them believe I’m serious about staying, even if I’m paid less?? I actually wanna stay & grow if possible.

You could say something like, “I’m looking for stability, not just a paycheck. I’d rather grow with one company that values me.” If you mention you’ve already been through the struggles of job hunting, they’ll know you’re not planning to jump ship easily.

This actually says a lot about your character... Many people only focus on salary, but you’re prioritizing alignment and growth. The only right employer will see this and appreciate.. Maybe one day..

I think the issue is that employers hear “pay cut” and assume it’s temporary. They’ll worry you’ll leave once better pay comes along. Maybe avoid mentioning the percentage and talk about finding the right fit instead.

Ngl, that’s a tough sell. Companies are cautious about retention, apparently. You might need to reframe your story..

Mmmm, you can’t control their assumptions! but you can back it up with some actions. Mention you’re open to a longer-term contract or growth plan. That shows you’re thinking ahead, not just using the job as a stopgap.

You could say work life balance. Life priorities for now.
