My ex-company OVERPAID my last salary & now asking me to refund them. SHOULD I?? if i don't want to, what legal actions can be taken against me? I mean, it's not a lot. Only $1.5k extra. Honestly, I don't plan on paying them back because I think for what's worth, and all the mental torture I've gone thru, $1.5k is not even enough. FYI, I've only worked for 2 weeks last month. Instead of paying half, they paid in full. Ain't my fault their HR is incompetent, rite?

If there is a price, our character and integrity are surely worth extremely much more than $1,500. Remember to always bring along your brain when you think, do not leave it behind.

If your industry is small and there's a chance that you might see your ex-boss again, I'd suggest just pay them back. If not, i don't think they'd go to such extend to hire lawyer and whatnot but it's not a good attitude to have. After all, honesty is the best policy 👍👍👍

You’re legally obligated to return overpaid wages, even if it was HR’s mistake. If you don’t, the company can take legal action to recover the amount, which might affect your record. Yes i know, it gives you headache, but paying it back could avoid unnecessary trouble later. think about it....

Whether mentally / emotional drain or not, one’s integrity definitely worth more than 1.5k, they may have done you wrong, but as an honest person, one should do the right thing, if the company is small, they may pursue the money back by legal means, if you can’t pay them back immediately, as them for repayment plan.

First, it’s an issue of integrity, and the situation could worsen if you’re on a work visa, as the employer may file a claim against you on the MOM portal.
Second, the employer has the option to escalate the matter to the Small Claims Tribunal, where you could ultimately be required to return the money since it doesn’t legally belong to you.
I strongly suggest returning the money to resolve the issue promptly and maintain your professional reputation.

1.5 extra is just peanuts la for them i think. Usually they won’t chase small amounts, i think you can ignore for now 👌

they will probably offset it from your next paycheck.

Ngl I’d feel the same in your shoes. But holding onto it might escalate things. They can technically sue for the amount. Instead of paying in full, maybe suggest a partial refund or repayment plan and see how they respond.
