7 years as technician I’ve gained a lot of hands-on experience, now my time to get a degree to become an engineer. The thing is, I’m in my 30s, and an engineering degree will take about 5 years. I’m wondering if it’s worth the time and effort at this stage in my life. For those who’ve made the switch, how was the transition? Did it open more doors? Also, what’s the best path to move from technician to engineer?

Those 7 years of experience will give you an edge over fresh grads. If committing to 5 years feels daunting, you could explore part-time or online programs. Some companies even sponsor further studies
